Diving into Dinovember: Curating a Collection of Dinosaur Books

Well, I finally took the plunge and did it! I pulled all the dinosaur books I could find for the juvenile picture book and juvenile fiction sections for Dinovember, which officially began last week! I had such a great time selecting all these books for display, and I am so excited to share them!

Adding Flair with Canva: Designing Vibrant Posters for the Display

I designed all of the posters for each section on Canva to add some personality to the display. I used Canva for a work project before, so it was nice to use it again for this one, too! I really tried to use bright, fun colors to match the adventurous, fun feel of being a dinosaur. I also designed one large poster of random dinosaur facts to add a little more whimsy and learning for kids who wanted to peruse that too.

After designing and printing all the posters, I was ready to set up the display, and I was pleasantly surprised by how everything came together! Once the books were all out and the posters were up everyone adored it!

Creating Connections: Observing Children's Excitement and Discussions About Books

I then overheard several conversations between kids and their parents as they searched through the books. Children were seeing dinosaur books they wanted to check out, parents were inquiring about books that their children had never seen before, and kids were having discussions with their parents about some of their favorite dinosaur books. It was so wonderful to know that I had helped make all those connections, not only between the kids and these books, but also between the children and the adults.

Looking around at the finished product made me very proud, but I am most proud of what Dinovember represents. It’s so much more than just putting out a display. This whole month is about inspiring that feeling of pure childlike wonder and adventure when you open up a good book! So here’s to Dinovember, and may we all be filled with wonder, imagination, and creativity this month. I’ll have to keep you posted on how the kids enjoy the display this month as we make some library memories!
