This week at my library practicum, I was excited to be given the opportunity to create my own children’s display for November, and I chose the theme "DINOVEMBER." This lively theme allows children to explore the fascinating world of dinosaurs while celebrating their imagination and love for reading. The process involved careful planning and creativity, and I was eager to dive in. My first step was to curate a selection of books that would not only align with the theme but also captivate the interest of young readers, ensuring a broad appeal across age groups.
Focusing on the children’s picture book section (JPIC) and the chapter book section, I set out to select 20 books for each category. Using the hcpl website, I spent time researching various titles that featured dinosaurs, ranging from colorful picture books with engaging illustrations to exciting chapter books that would spark curiosity and imagination. I aimed to find books that would resonate with kids and encourage them to pick up a book about dinosaurs and share their newfound knowledge with their friends and families. This experience is not only allowing me to contribute creatively to the library but also deepened my understanding of how to engage young readers through thoughtful curation, making it a fulfilling week in my practicum journey. I still have to create my display poster and pick out a few more books on Canva and set up once it’s November !
